DISTILLING AT HENDRICK’S

Hendrick's Gin tastes like no other gin because no other gin is made quite like it. Every drop of this precious spirit comes from it's beloved distillery on the south Ayrshire coast in Girvan, Scotland.

An absurdly Inefficient Process

Hendrick’s created inefficiently using not one but two utterly dissimilar types of still. The leaders of this peculiar ensemble is a Bennett, an antique copper pot still dating right back to 1860, and a rare Carter-head from 1948 of which only a handful exist today.

THE BENNETT

In this incredibly rare antique, a symphony of 11 botanicals are steeped in its base overnight. This steeping process allows for the perfect level of botanical oil extraction, producing a rich, deeply complex spirit. Think of it as a marvellous botanical teapot.

THE CARTER-HEAD

The incredibly rare Carter-head still steams the same dried botanicals in a basket above its lofty neck to create a light and fragrant spirit. This results in a lighter, more delicate spirit. We like to think of it as a sort of wonderous botanical steam bath.

THE RESULT

Marriage of Two Stills

The results of these two distillations are then married together in a secret ratio to create a spirit that is delicate, yet full of depth. But even after all of that it is not quite yet Hendrick’s. The coup de grâce is the addition of Bulgarian rose and cucumis sativus, commonly known as cucumber.
